What is the best way to publish poetry?

I've been writing poetry since I was a teenager and now as an adult I have several pages of poetry written. I started a poetry blog last year but I wonder if I should be just "giving it away" or if I should try to get published. Is self publishing a good option or submitting to literary magazines and building up a reputation better?

There are several places online you can publish your poetry for free, they'll even sell it for you! There is constant-content.com lulu.com Poetry contests all kinds of ways to get it out there for others to see, read and enjoy. Often self publishing through these type sites can build the reputation you need to create a market for your work.

Thank you for your response. Those are all some good ideas! I've heard the name constant content but I've never looked at the website. And I forgot about Lulu. I heard of them a while back but didn't think about publishing my poetry there.

I have some poems published at poetry.com but you may also publish them at lulu.com I have been publishing at lulu.com I am a translator of the Word of God from Greek to English. I have already published GENESIS, EXODUS, LEVITICUS (Greek-English), THE WILL New Testament (Greek to English), ELEMENTS of SALVATION, The Right Way, GOD, ORIGIN, TRANSFER into PERFECTION, GREEK-ENGLISH (Grammar & Vocabulary), WORDS in THE WILL New Testament, and others shown at http://www.lulu.com/arseniajoaquin I have not spent even a single cent in publishing these. There are no set up fees. Authors are not even required to buy even a single copy of their books. In fact I have not seen any copy of any of my books as I have no money and I don't even have any credit card. Lulu does not interfer with the content. Write anything you want too. Choose the size there, book cover, you're free to set your royalty, etc. Copyright is automatically included there.

In addition to those sites, there are some traditional book publishing companies that have poetry anthologies. They prefer the poems to center around a particular concept, such as "love" or "dreams" etc.
