Who has had their tubes tied after a c-section?

I am having my tubes tied (bilateral tubal ligation) after my c-section in 3 weeks and am curious about if the procedure is handled any differently than if it was an outpatient surgery. Is it done immediately after the baby is delivered? Do you still have the incisions next to the navel or do they go through the c-section cut?

I got my tubes tied right after the delivery of my baby via c-section. It was a longer time in surgery because it took a little while to deliver my daughter and then they tied my tubes. I was exhausted afterwards and did not have the energy to keep my baby with me (but then again it was my 2nd child). It was easy for me because I already had a c-section once before so I knew what to expect. I am glad I did the tube tying the same time of my c-section. Now I don't have to worry about birth control pills. Yea!!

Thanks for the reply. I've had two previous sections - my first was an emergency and my second was a planned one for twins. Baby #4 was a (huge) surprise so we're going with a section again. Did they use incisions in your abdomen to do it or did they go through the uterine incision? Thanks!

They go through your c section incision. It does take a little bit longer than just the c section but after the baby is born, you're so busy with ooing and ahhhing over your new little angel that you forget that the doctors are busy tying your tubes! It's really not a big deal and very simple with the c section! Good luck to you with your delivery and new baby!
