Is it an act of Courtesy-A Way to Add Points to other member or Both- Questions

United States

When I start a thread, I actually go back and read all of the responses and rate tham. When I rate them, are the posters being rewarded with points? I hope so. If I rate one of them as the best answer will that poster get an ever better point reward? I see so many threads that have not been rated at all. Does the actual poster of the original thread have to be the one to rate the answers (it seems that would be the most appropriate, since s/he was the one seeking the advice; but if not, can't this system then be abused? To my knowledge I have never seen any of my answers rated by anyone. Is it something that is just not done automatically or is it something that once you have been a member for awhile you kind of forget about and don't pay any attention to any longer? I would appreciate your input on this question. I also notice that when I open my email every day I see that "your friend so-and-so has posted a new discussion" with the same name occurring repeatedly for email after email; yet that friend has never replied to any of my discussion threads. Is this also a common practice? Please do not take these questions to be offensive, I am just testing waters and trying to get this point system down a little bit more. At the rate I am going, it is going to take me forever to make $10.00 so I must be doing something wrong and would really appreciate some posting/responding tips and aids. Thanks to anyone who chooses to respond - and you will get rated ~Donna

Well I'm fairly new here but will answer what I can. I believe the rating can be done by anyone. I'm not sure how much it effects points or not but I try to give ratings for really good posts and really sucky ones. Now for best response only the original poster can rate that. From what I've heard it can add some to their earnings but I have no idea on how much. I don't think you can actually see what you have been rated except for best discussions. Those you can check under your profile to see a listing of the ones you've been graded as best. For myself with friends I get the emails and I go through them. If I'm interested in the topic and can add something to it I will post. If not I won't. I have had some though that posted tons and most were not of good quality postings so I removed them from my friends list. I usually try to post to my friends discussions but only if I have something to add to it. I don't want to waste their time or mine. For earning money all I can suggest is make sure when you post that they are quality posts. That they are more then a sentence or two and have something of merit to it. That your discussions generate more then a sentence response from people. The yes/no type or one word answer ones don't bother with. If you respond to people who post in a discussion like if you respond to me in here make sure it's more then just thank you for posting. That won't help your earnings. Also in another discussion try to do respond and not comment. Responding gets added to your score by your name, comments don't although they might effect your earnings (I'm not sure on the earnings part). Add pictures into your interest areas. It doesn't add a lot of money but it can add a bit. Good luck and I hope this all helps

I don't think we gets points for being rated a positive or best answer but I believe we get a bigger earning amount. Because even when I post the same number of times each day some days my amounts are higher then others. You can also rate answers. if you notice the boxes at the side when you respond to someones question. Only the person who started the thread can pick a best answer. some times i wait a few days before I go and start rating responses to my threads I have started.

I once read that you get points for rating. But there are some points that I just have to rate irrelevant of whether I get paid for it or not cos the poster has pt so much common sense or thought into it. I do believe it is the responsibility of every poster to mark a best response to every discussion he/she has started, I know how much seeing one of my best responses motivates me! Keeping up the posting to about 10 a day - with quality - (minimum, rating people, posting pictures, these are the routine methods for adding up your balance. It seems slow in the beginning, but it does work its way up! I just qualified this month after 5 months, but I only do this when i am free between work :)

What you said seems to be so true. Motivation is a real factor and for a poster to go back and actually say that your post was "the one" that helped her/him the most with the question posted, would be a great feeling. Thank you ~Donna

Rating responses and givingout best response tags increases the earnings of the poster and it's just plain friendly. I have several people here on myLot that pop in with some really good responses on a whole lot of my discussions. I Just learned about that rating thing and you bet that a whole lot of people who are aces in my book are going to be seeing some plus ratings from me. But OMG I have posted well over 300 discussions and gotten page upon page of responses so going back and rating all of them now will be difficult but for some of my hardcases I am going to go ahead and do it.

Thank you so much Sharone! 300 discussions sounds pretty daunting, maybe you better just start with the most recent and go backward from there ;-). I'm happy that this discussion has made people think ~Donna

I think everyone answered your question here except for one thing. If I read it correctly, you wondered why it looks like no posts were rated. When you press a + or - to rate a post, the word "rated" will appear. That means that YOU have rated that particular post. Only you alone can see the posts that you rated. You can not see what posts others have rated. Except in the case of best response. This can only be done by the person that started the discussion. The words in blue about rating a best response will appear next to every response until you pick a best response. You should wait awhile to do so. I see people rating best responses after only two responses have been posted. Then someone else posts a better response. And finally, to turn off your emails of friends posts, you go to your profile and select each friend that you do or do not want to receive emails about. I have two friends that I receive emails for when they start a new discussion, but I have lots of friends. You don't have to delete friends if you don't want the emails, just turn off the email option to the individual friend. You can also turn off the option to receive emails when someone responds to your discussion. I hope that covers everything for you.

I just found out about the ratings recently, and I started doing the ratings. I did sign up for friends alert so I get the emails to. I usually respond if it is something that interst me. I have yet to receive any response to my post by my frieds so I might be getting rid of them soon.

Thank you for your response it is appreciated. Please don't be so quick to discard your friends. I am very new to this site and it is overwhelming to try to -learn to navigate it -post your own discussions -check out and respond to at least one post when someone invites you to be their friend -go back to your own discussions and rate the responses -try to get to as many of your friends' new discussions as possible and post a reply -try to keep your profile updated with new "key" words Please just keep trying for awhile. Friends are too precious to simply throw away ~Donna

Thank you for your response. I don't know the "biggies" at mylot well enough to be asking for things just yet. I only have $1.24 in my account. I better wait until I have a bit more leverage ;-)

I applaud your actions, because I think this type of site should be for open and honest discussion, rather than for generating cash, and it is good to know that people actually read your responses, even if they disapprove of your response. By rating the response you are letting the respondent know that you have at least considered their input, and you can reflect your opinion on their thoughts. On a seperate note, Donna, I like the idea of a kitchen witch, but wonder if you are aware of the meaning in farming circles of the term 'tupper'? I feel you may well be maligning yourself unworthily. Enjoy the site, and good luck with your rewards, too many people abuse such sites, whereas tou seem a genuine user, and the type we could with more of.

Thank you for all of your positive comments, and indeed I am a kitchen witch of old, something handed down through generations. As far as the "tupper" part goes - I sell Tupperware! I mean nothing derogatory or any other negative implication by it and would be most pleased if you would message me with the farming community meaning - I love and cherish old meanings and words. I am on my way to asking for your friendship right now ~Donna

I am only new here but when I start a thread, I always go back and read the response and I rate the best answer. And it is the one that put the thread there that rates the discussion. I never receive emails from the same person they are different user that have responded to me. It should not take you that long to have your earnings up to $10.00 as for myself I have nearly $4.00 in one week, as what I am doing must count I put through discussions and do the above and respond to others to try to help them with their questions. Hopefully this helps you.

I would like to say thank you for posting this discussion. I have learned quite a bit since I am also fairly new here. I did not even realize that we can get emails about out Mylot friends posting new discussions. I must not have that feature turned on, because I have a few friends on here and have never received such an email. I have only received emails about people posting to what few topics I've started. I definitely believe that we should all do our best to rate responses, as well. From all that I've heard, it helps us all to earn more! ^_^

To all 3 of the above posters, here is somthing else that I have noticed during this question series. If you do not answer directly to the original post - as happened here - you answered to the previous answer - it only gives the original poster the option of making the first poster "the best response"; and the origninal poster can only post a comment to the first poster in the thread. ~Donna

I read every word of this discussion because it raised questions that had me wondering also. Some of those questions are now answered and I guess I can visit back and maybe solve a few others. I too have had to remove someone from my friends list because there were just too many postings and they were cramming up my email as well as the My Lot my friends discussions section. I'm finding now that even though I still have few friends, the discussions are piling up and are getting difficult to sort though. I don't want to remove any more friends right now. Shouldn't we be able to delete individual postings? Even with friends, I don't respond to everything they post. I think we need to be able to delete more around here.

I still have not figured out how we are getting paid. It seems I can do the same number of comments and discussions on different days and get paid a different amount each time. I just keep doing what I am doing and hopefully it will pay off. I have been here for 2 weeks and made over $26. so I hope it increases soon.

I do it out of courtesy. I think if someone takes the time to respond, then you should take the time to rate and at least try to read them all. Sometimes I realize we can't but for the most part you can at least rate them for answering or give them a minus for giving one word answers!

I dont think the thread poster can rate every responder left, right and center!! I believe the thread poster can rate one responder in every thread as a best responder!! I am not to sure whether that would increase any amount of money of that responder!!

Donna, I am glad that you ask this question. I am trying to figure out how all this works. I have only been a member for 3 days and I thought that we got money for rating. I was chosen as top commenter on one of my comments. It shows up under best comments section at the top of the page. I try to read and type comments that are relevent to the article. I just dont seem to be getting any money. I have found out that it takes till the next day to recieve amount of pay for the previous day. This is new to me. I think I like gather better at this point but like I said, I am new. I will learn. I already learned by reading your commnents to this article. You seem to have a large following. I dont get many comments.
