How can I overcome my terrible fear of heights?

I have no problems travelling by plane. But I have this annoying fear of heights that whenever I am in a high place and look down, my feet freeze and I feel as if something is pulling me down. This is funny, but even if I know that there is a window glass between me and the outside, I cant come close enough to the window like other people do.
