There is one very useful, efficient light weight lan messenger, IP Messenger....it is really very useful in terms of acknowledgements and other settings... and moreover it is free...and used in many of the s/w companies i know..

I was in the look out for such a s/w. Can u clarify certain detials. We are already using one such s/w which has certain defects. One cannot receive messages unless the s/w is activated. Also everytime the s/w is started, we have to add the computer names of all the persons on the network. Also, once the s/w is crossed (logged off) computer has to be rebooted for the s/w to refunction.
