Strait out exhaust

I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 5.2 liter V8, and i want to get strait out exhaust and i work at a automotive shop and i talked to a couple people their and they said that my truck does not have the back pressure for strait outs and if i did get it it would ruin my rings, is that true
