Should people be made to learn english before they are allowed to live in USA?

How many people feel that you should at least know basic english before you can move to the USA?

Yes they should be learn the basic english how else will they know what's on contracts they sign or know how to take an order in a fast food resturant {which if you have been to one close to you..You won't be able to understand them} It's time to say learn it or leave....

Why? There are many languages I'll never know or want to know how to speak. Everyone has a right to their own culture, values and language. I do think we should not hand them everything once they get here though.

but the reason why we do hand them everything when they get here is because most of them don't know enough english to get a job. So making it so they at least need to know the basics would probably stop most going on welfare. There are alot of people in my city that are on welfare simply so they can go to school to learn english.

No, I think that there should be some citizenship requirements but I think the hardship is always more with the person who doesn't know the language well

Well, I think that learning English should be a job requirement and a citizenship requirement! It is sad that, here in the US, we are being made to learn spanish in the workplace and in our schools to accomodate even those that aren't legal citizens of this country. We are basically stepping aside, letting them take away our jobs, our government money, and our heritage to accomdate them. Yes, they should have to learn English!
