Smokers are not bad people

I find it funny in todays society that smokers are shuned and treated badly. We live in the land of the free, unless you are a smoker, even when you go to your little hole to have a smoke, non-smokers seem to want to walk into that hole and then complain. I have already been banished, don't come over here where you know I am smoking and complain about it, it is rude.
I smoke because I am an adult and I get to make my own decisions. My life is not a trial run, this is it and I want to enjoy it while I have it and if I am not judging you, please don't judge me!
Any comments for and or against are welcome, I would love to hear what both sides think and feel on this subject!

I am not a smoker. I do however agree with you that people shouldnt just "come over here where you know I am smoking and complaing about it". And I agree smokers are not bad people. I also think it isnt fair for you to be banished. However, you must remember (not that you could forget) that passive smoking is bad for your friends health. So when you light one up when your with them they have every right to politly ask you not to, or to move away from you. I also think that your reason for smoking, "I smoke because I am an adult and I get to make my own decisions" is not a good enough one. If you want to proove to yourself/others that you are an adult you could quit smoking. That would bring you respect from yourself and your friends.

Yes, I am aware of the passive smoking thing and even without being banished, I will move away from non-smokers in a public place like a bowling alley so that I do not offend them, I should them respect and I am asking for is respect in return. I say that I am adult and it is my choose to smoke because it is. I am not doing anything illegal and I am not hurting anyone but myself. My only point is that I am showing respect to the non-smokers by moving away from, the could show me a little respect by not treating me like a child and making rude comments or lecturing me on the pitfalls of smoking. Trust me I have heard it all, I know what they, but I still make the choice to smoke, this my decision, not the entire worlds.

I am not saying it a good habit or a bad habit, but it is a habit. Do you drink coffee, do you drink alchol, how about soda, almost everything you do is bad for you, but you still do it. Not all smokers die 10 years eariler, my grandparents have smoked for well over 70 years and they are both fine, no major medical problems, my grandfather still works a job and he chain smokes. You can believe that is shortens your life if you want, but getting hit by a bus could shorten it too, are you never going to cross the street again???

You know I used to smoke (before I had a baby) and I sympathize. I did not pick the habit back up after pregnancy and I am very very protective of keeping my child away from the smoke, BUT if its just me I do not have a problem with it. In my county they just banned smoking from all public places and the ex-smoker in me was outraged that they don't even have the option of going into a smoking section outside or in a separate room, etc. I feel that is definately taking someone's rights away. Just my two cents. I completely understand the feelings you are going through.

Yes, it's not fair for the smokers, we can not judge someone is bad because he / she is smoking, lot of smokers are nice person just like me for example. For some people i must say they have their own view point about people who smoke, but just like you say it's a free world, we choose our way, no body can stop us what we like to do. And not to hard i think to keep polite each other although we know the person is bad person, but it will keep peace on earth.

smokers arent bad people.. i have a lot of friends who smoke.. they are good people they just have bad habits of smoking..i dont complain when people smoke in front of me... i just dont want to see people smoke in front of kids or old people who are weak or pregnant women because it could harm their health.. its okay for me to smoke around people who smoke or who udnerstand them
