Rurouni Kenshin is a sort of old favorite.. I mean this was an anime that was quite popular while I had just started hearing about anime, more than a year back.. Its considered a classic and is actually a very good story.. So how many people out there like it? Oh and have you read the manga as well? Which did you prefer?

Rurouni Kenshin: Romance of a Meiji Swordsman (?????? ???????, Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan?), a manga and anime series created by mangaka Nobuhiro Watsuki, is set during the early Meiji period in Japan. The English versions of the OVAs as well as the movie are sold under the Samurai X name. The series tells the story of an assassin named Himura Kenshin, who was known as the Hitokiri Battosai ("Man killer - Master of Battojutsu"). Kenshin later grieves for all the lives he has taken, and vows that he will never kill again. The manga originally appeared in the Japanese Shonen Jump Weekly Anthology, and the completed work consists of 28 tankobon volumes. The United States release of the manga has been completed by VIZ Media. Rurouni Kenshin is subtitled "Wandering Samurai" in some English releases, as a rough translation of "Rurouni." Writer Kaoru Shizuka has written an official Rurouni Kenshin novel titled Voyage to the Moon World. The novel has been translated by VIZ Media and distributed in the United States and Canada.

I think this discussion was started so you could state your opinion and not rewrite something that a website made before you. That was just a waste of time, because in this way, you help nobody

yup its sort of an old favorite among animes but still whenever i tend to see it airing here in our country i still watch it, i dunno why but maybe because of the fightscenes and a great storyline...i just didn't like what they did to kenshin i mean they should'nt kill the main character it was a very sad ending

I completely agree with you! In fact, the manga had an excellent ending with which I'm very happy. I don't think I'll ever watch the OVAs because I don't agree with it. Neither did the author, if I remember right.

Thats absolutely right! Fight scenes are really fastactic and breath taking! His aerial attacks are deadly and unstoppable, he slash very fast and very accurate. His effective and efficient attacks are all thanks to his battou technique. His magnificent aerial maneuver are my favorites. He rotates and flips his body so that his slash will be very deadly but still his enemy will be badly hurt and still keeps his life. After fighting with someone, they will be surely and badly bruised, hurted and unconscious but they will still wake up and live afterwards. Thats why I really like Kenshin, after being a wonderer he stopped killing.

Samurai X is one of the first anime I used to watch. At first, I've seen it on TV but didn't quite liked it because the voices were not the original ones and these were not good at all. But, I continued to watch it because the story was really good and it also had very intenese action scenes. It left me a very good impression, and I think it's one of the reasons that started to make me love anime.

Yeah! Kenshin is the best swordsman out there, he will surely defeat his enemies no matter how strong they may be. He has friends and lots of friends, they are his strength that keeps him going. They are his reason not to give up and he always fight for them. His the best fighter and the best friend you will ever find!

I love the fact that at the end of each episode you end up with a deeper appreciation for the characters-- and i don't mean just the good guys! The bad guys are not so much defeated as they are allowed more of our empathy and understanding. The manga and the anime series follow each other pretty closely, but I have to say the animated version has a more exciting appeal because of the aciton and physical humor. Both of them have rather beautiful cover designs as well.

Yeah.. the people are all realistic.. with positive and negative characteristics. I mean, I can't say I ever *liked* Shishio, but you couldn't help but respect a person who was that determined to do what he believed was right. I mean, people who do what they believe to be right may not necessarily be correct and that's actually a pretty valuable lesson.

The anime Rurouni Kenshin is also one of my old favorite shows. Actually, it is the first anime that I liked and I pretty much got addicted to it. I think it was really a good show. It has a great story and cool yet funny characters. They also have some pretty cool moves. I also like the romance in the story. Kenshin and his girl are just so sweet! Then, I also feel there is a right amount of drama in the story. Unlike other animes I have watched. I think it is still one of the best animes today. And some new animes are far less enjoyable than this anime. Some even tried to copy the anime, just changed some parts of it. Overall, it is one of the best animes ever and it is still is.

I love Rurouni Kenshin. I never really liked anime before, but when I got to watch this title.. the rest is history. ^_^ I always liked everything related to the Japanese culture. :) The plot, the swordplay and the humor in this anime gives it a thumbs up. I could watch this anime over and over again and I won't get tired of it. :) By the way, did you knw that Samurai X is different from Rurouni Kenshin? Samurai X takes place during Kenshin's Battousai days and Rurouni Kenshin stars after he abandoned his Battousai name. ^_^

Kenshin is an amazing series. The animation is a bit dated by now, but, man, what an affecting storyline.... Especially the Kyoto arc. Probably the first "serious" anime that I watched. Kenshin as a character has a surprising amount of depth for a relatively simple concept, and the supporting cast and villians are also very well-drawn and complex. The manga is better, I think; the art is better, the story tends a bit darker, the ending is better (no stupid filler arc at the end, instead, Enishi!) But I love Kenshin's seiyuu in the anime, so it balances out for me.
