canon PowerShot A60 defective ccd sensor

Hey appreciate your help on this one. My canon PowerShot A60 camera after about a year suddenly began to show 'garbage' on the lcd screen and on all the pictures taken. On checking with Canon it was found that it was a manufacturers defect and regardless of warranty status they would repair it free of charge. However it was a gift so I don't have proof of purchase and so i couldn't have it repaired at authorised dealers. Is it possible to buy a ccd sensor or have it repaired anywhere in New York?
