Lousy Credit?

What is the deal with credit agencies? I mean, does your negative info ever REALLY come off your credit report? I have friends who have filed bankruptcy, and then after that had 2 cars repoed, a house repoed and they can still get creditcards.. I didn't pay a doctor bill that my insurance didn't cover, I owe 70 dollars for a library book and 1 other bill and I can't get a credit card.. Oh yeah, I also own a car that I bought new with a cosigner and was never late on one payment (it's paid off) and I've had student loans for 3 years that have never been late either.. My score's not even that bad 620.. so why can't I get a creditcard? How long does negative really stay on?

Looks like your in one of these, you can only get credit if you prove you don't need it kind of situations. have you tried all credit card companies, not sure if you have Capital One, but they'll give credit cards to anyone, I got one a few years ago, when I only had a part-time job.

Yup capital one turned me down. I get the same excuse.. Credit history not long enough. Like I said.. HOW can I GET a credit history if nobody will GIVE me credit? Whoopie.. I pay my bills on time everytime, but they don't report your payments to the credit bureaus UNLESS you STOP paying them.. LOL

620 isn't bad. However, there may be other factors, your income may not be high enough to offset your debts or whatever credit you do have may be considered too new. Most bad debts will stay on your credit report for at least 7 years. If you run your credit report, there should be a date next to each items that tells you when it should disappear from your record.

I make WAY more then my debt (honestly, my total debt is maybe 1500) I owe a hospital bill (that only came up when I applied for a personal loan, it didn't show up when I pulled my free yearly report from ALL 3 Bureaus) I can't, other then my car, own anything of real value because of my credit. I'm stuck in the catch 22.. I can't get approved because I don't have a long enough credit history, but I can't get a credit history because nobody will give me credit.
