Who is from, or has been to the Netherlands? Do you like it there?

I want to know how many have been to the Netherlands and how many here are from there. I was born there and I am curious about how people view the country. I don't live there any more but I still have all my family and friends there. I learned that many people only think of Amsterdam and the red light district, but that's such a worn out joke. What do you think?

I love the Netherlands. My father immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands over thirty years ago and I have only been able to visit twice. There is something about the country that makes me want to live there. I would have to win the lottery though as the cost of living is so high. Amsterdam is so much more than the red light district and "coffee" houses. The history, the art, the arcitecture (sp?) the markets, the parks, etc.

I am from Rotterdam. They now also call it the Little Manhatten, because a lot of high buildings are being build. Rotterdam is a great city to live, work or study. The city has a lot of habitants of all sort of countries.

I had a chance to visit the Netherlands for about a week in December of 2002. I stayed in Amstersdam for 2 days and spent a week in Wageningen. For someone like me who is from the Philippines, I would say that I was and still am impressed with the Netherlands. Some observations are: 1. The country is beautiful, in general. 2. Winters are "harsh" in the Netherlands - especially for someone like me coming from a tropical country. I have friends, however, who have been to the Netherlands during summer and say that the country is impressive during summer time (with rabbits/ bunnies running around fields). 3. Amsterdam is still a great "tourist" destination. I guess my 2 days of stay there left so much to be "explored". I could talk about the people and the culture if you like but I guess that's outside of the topic (or is it?).

I am from Holland, but moved to Australia 2 years ago. I think that Holland has a lot of good, but also negative things. But I guess you can say that of every country. I think the positive thing is that Holland has a good social security. When you're disabled, old, etc. you get a pension where as you don't always get that in other countries. On the other hand there are a million rules in Holland and I think the government is way to tolerant. Also the mentality is totally different compared to Australians. It's much more relaxed up here. Then you've got the climate. I prefer the sunny weather over the rainy days in Holland. And not to forget the lack of space. Everything is so cramped in Holland. But even though I prefer living in Australia.. Holland is still home sweet home!

I'm from the Netherlands and I like it here, even though I already know I want to move when the time is right. I want to travel all over the world. Than I can see the Netherlands in a different perspective. I think that'll be fun :)

My wife and I visited the Netherlands in 2005 with our seven month old son. My wife's father is from Zuidwolde and we went to visit all the rest of the family around the country. We loved Rotterdam and Zwolle as well as Zuidwolde (the three places we stayed with relatives). But we also spent three days on our own in Amsterdam and absolutely loved it! This city is beautiful! And so easy to get around! If we could afford property in the Netherlands, we'd move in an instant!

I spent the summer there about 15 years ago and absolutely loved it. I would love to go back. I am Dutch (on my mother's side) and have relatives there, but they are all distant--I don't know any of them. The red light district is the last thing I would think of when thinking of Holland. I think of the history, architecture, landscapes, bicylces. I 'think' I would love to live there, but not knowing anything about the government, employment, finances, cost of living, etc, I really can't say. I just remember gasoline being very expensive!
