A few days ago, I was watching one of the nation's news programs, you know the ones, 20/20 and such. They had a special on the Borat movie, which I have not seen, but I have heard it is causing quite a stir. I watched to learn about the movie, but learned something else. Did you know, when they filmed the movie with those people whom Borat abuses (or so it seems to me) the movie people sold this movie as a documentary?? The people in the Borat movie agreed to participate in a documentary. After the filming they cut and remixed the conversations to suit their needs in this comedy. I saw a few of the participants and BOY ARE THEY MAD!!! One lady runs a "manners" school, and is almost out of business because of what they did in the movie. I think this is a sad way to treat our fellow humans. They don't realize how much they have hurt other people financially and emotionally by doing this. I feel very sorry for these people, they are made out to be ignorant, boorish, unfeeling and even racist. Do you think it is right for them to do this? The movie people did make them sign consent forms, but all the people said they were given the contract 5 minutes before shooting the piece, not any time to read it. I guess that makes them at fault too, but the Borat people intentionally deceived them in my opinion, and if they had done it to me, I'd be plenty unhappy.

Cannot say that I was ever inspired to see this movie as from all I saw, Borat was a total idiot and boor, with no class or taste and even fewer manners. It must be really awful for these people who have been caused so much anguish when this was shown as a movie however they did sign the consent form. The old saying "buyer beware" and "always read the fine print" is just so true and although these people have learnt a hard lesson, I doubt that there is anything they can do about it. For the life of me, I cannot understand why someone would take part in anything, documentary or movie, that was being filmed if they were made out to be total and complete idiots.

I so agree, if I were involved, I would have walked out during taping when I saw what direction it was going. They could have sued me.......

I really haven't had any desire to see the movie. I like comedy but I was turned off by the way they made fun of another country and its' people. That is over the line for me.

You're right that is a mean thing to do to another human being. They should've given those people enough time to read through the contract. But, the film maker probably knew that half of the people would've not agree to their terms and that's why they did it that way to get their way. I would be very unhappy too if that happened to me.

I think they duped these people on purpose, just to get a movie that is shocking. We should treat our fellow humans better than that. I am sure they could have found actors more tha willing to do anything for a buck, they didn't have to prey on innocent people.
