According to the CIA World Fact Book for 2003, the EU had exports that were more than double in value to those of the US. Indeed, it may be that Germany, with only a third of the US's population, will topple the US as the world's leading exporter within a few years. Given the closer economic co-operation between the EU countries, and the expansion of the EU into the former Soviet Bloc, together with China's inexorable rise, will America be the world's third largest economic entity in a decade from now ?
