Should Fan Pang have rebelled against the eunuchs? Yes: the eunuchs were corrupt and the Emperor too young to control them. No: that would have been rebellion against the Emperor; it might have led to civil war and even greater bloodshed; it might have set a bad example for the future. He showed courage and integrity in criticising; dignity and nobility in surrendering for punishment. I’m trying to think of parallels in history or literature.
