I saw in the new Lion Brand catalog that they have a pattern that mixes Homespun with something else - a cotton yarn, I believe. I've never mixed two types of yarns before except when I made a baby afghan with leftover yarn. Have you ever mixed yarns in the same garment or item?

When I do freeform knitting and crocheting I mix many kinds of acrylic yarns into the same garment. I'm just careful not to mix any wool in there as the washing requirments are so different. And when I'm weaving I also mix not only yarns, but sticks, wool roving, bamboo, raffia, string, cordage and other fibers. If you are never going to wash the item, like in a wall hanging, you have more freedom. If you want to mix yarns and go wild, you should probably check them for color fastness first by dipping a strand in warm water and laying it on a paper towel to dry. If it bleeds onto the white paper towel, don't use it in your project. It doesn't play well with others.

Yes, you're right. You have to think of the care of the item and not mix natural fibers with manmade. I was thinking more along the lines of different plies and weights. Thanks for responding
