I have read The Alchemists, many times over and fell in love with this book every time. The book is nodoubt filled with many insightful phrases and lines about life. However, when I discuss this with my frieds, I find that different lines struck the thought process af different person. In this process, I was also able to realize some hidden messages in the book that were gone unnoticed during my own readings. My Favourite line is " All they want is food and water" This line is actully said for sheeps, but it seems as if Paulo Coelho is sending a hint towards we humans, who in a very broad sense, just made our lives same as animals. Just to get food water and physical pleasure has become our destiny. Just like getting food and water is the goal of sheeps, we have made our goals to satisfy our regular needs. And just like getting food and water is a very very short term goal with an equally short span of fullfilment, our goals are more or less same; lacking long term plans and having a very short term of feeling of fuifilment. This is purely my viewpoint. I invite all of you to help get more insights hidden in this book.

"MAKTUB" or it is written - it gives me some sense of faith.

MAKTUB is the my favourite prase in the book 'the alchemist'. It means it is written. Our destiny is already written by the hands of God. whatever we do and whatever we face in life is prewritten. Just ike the destiny of the shepherd Santiago was to travel and find a treasure, we all have our destiny and it is written, MAKTUB.

I would say, "If you desire something, the whole nature conspires to help you" something similar. I guess this is so true, if we just observe this in our daily lives.

My favorite line I have to paraphrase since I do not have the book close by, but the alchemist tells the boy that he always had the power within him, he only needed to find it. I read this book for the first time when I was about 12 and that statement had a profound impact on me. It made me realize that I really could do anything I wanted to, I just had to find the determination and will power within myself to go out and do it.

it is : "You must understand that love never keeps a man from pursuing his destiny. If he abdons that pursuit, it's because it wasn't true love...the love that speaks the Language of the World."
