We all know how important the telephone is for us. We talk on the phone and end up paying huge bills at the end of the month.Should the telephone facility be provided free of cost by the government? OR should it be kept the way it is? I think that upto a certain limit, telephone facilities should be made free for all citizens and after that user crosses the minimum usage, He should pay for it. I think that if the telephone is made free, People will never be lonely as they will always have something to do when bored, depressed or something. What are your views on this guys?

No, why should it be free. It is like any other service. There are jobs involved. Salaries to be given. WHere will the money come from? Yes, to a certain extent it can be made free for the poorer class of people. But I dont think telephone bills are that high anyways. Thanks for the post.

I don't know about being free. Even if the government pays for it, that means we will still be the ones paying since we're the ones the government gets the money from. I do think there should definitely be some regulations. My phone bill always has charges on it that I don't understand.

We will be the one's paying , agree. But , when it is not free , you already do pay your taxes along with all your phone bills. So I think , it should really be made free to a certain extent.

There would need to be a lot of restrictions imposed on a free telephone system to avoid abuse, so there would not be a benefit over a paying service. The exchanges are geared to cope with a certain volume of traffic, but as soon as the word FREE arises the volume of calls would treble at least. There would be children using the telephone for hours on end, unemployed people would spend hours on the telephone from boredom and the exchanges would require extra staff and major upgrades. This would result with tax increases to finance the system, so I am happier paying for the service that I use.

Yes , I am saying that it should be made free to a LIMIT and not entirely free to prevent abuse.
