I was diagnosed with Diabetes in November 2005, for the past couple months I have had it under control, but recently have experienced a minor setback with some related kidney problems and low b12 and folic acid, so I had to be placed on 3 more medications.

You should be very perticular about your sugar content during the other treatment. this requires constant and vigil watch on sugar content and right treatment

I don't have diabetes, but my 15 yr. old daughter does and she was diagnosed when she was 5 yrs. old. She has had her fair share of ups and downs in the past 10 yrs. She has been hospitilized about 5 times, due to her diabetes. We do not allow any sweets in our house because we found out by mistake that if we do she is very tempted to eat it,[candy bars, cookies& etc.}We only buy sugar free things like ice cream ,cookies , etc. It has been a long road but because we keep such a close eye on her diabetes, i feel that it will keep her free of all the problems related to her diabetes.

from what i know, there are three types of diabetes: type I or juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent is often diagnosed in children , type II or non-insulin-dependent is usually obesity-related and is diagnosed (also usually) in adults. the third type of diabetes is called gestational diabetes which occurs during pregnancy. if you're seeing children of 15-16 years with diabetes which they didn't have before, the cause of their diabetes is probably obesity-related resulting from unhealthful lifestyles and eating patterns. thank God, i haven't been diagnosed with diabetes!

It runs in my family, but it is Type II..My grandmother had it and she got when she was like 62 years old. My mom has it and she was about 63 years old when she got it. Now my brother has it but he got it early. He was like 54 when he was told he had it. I get checked every year for it as I'm now 54. But in my family it does seem to be the weight part causing it. My Mom and brother are both over weight. My brother was told he can start controlling it with his diet now. Thank God for that, but my mom who is now 82 has some bad health problems. She had a small stroke just before Christmas and is now in a nursing home.... So it is better to be tested and watch your weight as it is no fun to get diabetes..

I was diagnosed with type II in 2000. They said that I had probably got it because of an infection and also due to stress related things when I was going through a divorce at the time. They tried to regulate it with pills but after a month of nothing happening to help me, they put me on insulin. Finally in September of 2006, I found out I was pregnant and started to see a different doctor who then ran tests and such and said that I was misdiagnosed and that I was infact type I. I was put on an insulin pump (my A1C's were above a 10 at the time) and only a short month later of being on the pump, I had my A1C's down to a 6. I tell you, that thing not only saved my life, but it saved the life of my beautiful baby boy. My pregnancy was great. The only problem I had was high ammiotic (I am not sure how to spell that) fluid. But other then that, my sugar levels were so much easier to control with the pump. I recommend EVERYONE that is insulin dependant to get it if they can! =)

I was diagnosed with diabetes in October 2005 when I was 31 years old. It was a complete shocker to me as I was never very fond of sweets, due to which I always under the misconception that I can never get diabetes. In my case it was mainly due to my eating habits due to frequent traveling and also due to hereditary reasons.

I don't have diabetes but Type 1 or Juvenile diabetes runs in my family. It is an autoimmune disease which occurs when the body's immune system attacks a healthy pancreas. Some researchers believe that a virus can trigger Type 1 diabetes in people with this predisposition but it's not clear. Type 1 typically occurs during the onset of puberty, possibly because of hormonal changes, I'm not sure. My youngest son was diagnosed when he was 13, my mom when she was 14 and my sister when she was 16; so it's not unusual for it to happen during the teen years although it can happen at any age. Type 2 (which is a metabolic disorder) occurs more often in people who are obese, but it can also happen to people who are active and eat well. I'm sure the increase in obesity in young people is a strong reason why there is more type 2 occuring in this age group.
