Mimoco will be releasing its Star Wars Series One "Mimobots" (USB flash drives) on January 8th. The first series features Darth Vader, Chewbacca, a storm trooper, and R2-D2.
The Mimobots come in 1, 2, and 4 GB storage sizes and all come with (removable) pre-loaded content including avatars, wallpapers, and video and soundbites. Each character is produced in a limited edition of only 2,500 to 3,500 units. Interested retailers can purchase Mimobots directly from Mimoco (they are not available through distributors at this time). Retail prices range from $79.95 to $169.95, depending on memory size.
Past series of Mimoco flash drives have have featured designs by a variety of artists, including Lili (Mucha Lucha) Chin, some of them in very limited editions. They've received some press, including a feature in The New York Times consumer section on August 6, 2006. Flash drives with cool designs are more common in Asia; we've just started to see them in the last six months here in the States.
