Telephone company are so greedy these days...

six months ago we have Bellsouth as telephone provider but they charge you so many different taxes that I don't know where come from they even have a freaking Universal pay whenever you get your bill and heck I know I did not call anybody from mars so why they charge you universal pay is behind me. Our bill gets almost $200.00 a month from local, domestic long distance, and international call, so we decided to switch to Vonage service since theirs is a little low and we could save lots of $$$$ but then again they don't send the bill they'll debit it from bank account and so far me and my husband are not very happy coz they charge our checking acct. a couple of times now twice in the month of aug. so my husband call them and they its just a miss understanding so they won't charge us on sept. and so they did but this dec. they did it again charge us twice, I think their doing it in purpose, good thing i always check our acct. balance if not they might just get away w/ it. I just don't know which one is better, I don't want to get a cellphone and just drop this service coz it would be so much more expensive to call my family back in the philippines using a cellphone.Is there any company out here in the US that has good quality service that won't rip you off base on experience please?
