Would you buy an autograph off Ebay?

I thought of this question because of the Ebay related ads that show at the top of Mylot now. Would you purchase an autograph off Ebay? I'm not sure I would. Anyone can claim it's real. I'd rather get one myself in person or by writing a letter.

I would, but make sure it comes with a COA from a big name place. You can also check out pictures on Beckett of autographs and compare it with the auction picture.

there actually IS a way to know if the autograph is authentic...well, at least a little safer, anyway. if you really met the star and had enough time to ask for an autograph good enough to re-sell on ebay, you probably had a chance to also take pictures with the star. easy peasy, you ask that the star pose for a shot holding the item they are autographing. you will see some of these on ebay to back up the signature authenticity. sometimes they even have the star sign a kind of authenticity signature. this is useful for the REAL collectors of autographs. they probably keep these certificates as well, as the star's 'autograph' needs to be on there too lol. i would not bother buying an autograph off of ebay though. i'm not big on autographs in the first place. i have met many many 'famous' people and only have about 2 autographs that i got myself. a couple more that people gave me after meeting someone they knew i admired. it's fun, but i'm not a collector, and it's just marker on a piece of paper ;)

I don't think I would. I would be afraid that it would end up being a fake and a waste of money.

I'm not an autograph freak and would never buy one anywhere. Ebay is probably the most dangerous place to buy one anyway - unless the seller is genuine and has a great feedback. For me the only way to collect autographs is to meet the person and get it straight from him!

No, I would never buy an autograph- period. Why pay good money for someone else's signature? But especially not on EBay- it would be way too easy for someone to be scamming.

I have thought about buying one of one of the members from the show 7th heaven. Your right though it might not be real. I did buy a keychain with Chris Daughtry from American Idol though.

Yes! Ebay is a great source for autographs! You have to be very very careful though. My best advice is to do your homework, do a little research to see what the signature usually looks like. Next, find a seller with a good feedback rating, be very careful with this though, I have seen sellers with tons of feedback , and a 100% positive rating seller fake signatures. The next thing you have to do is have some common sense. Say you come across a photo signed by Johnny Depp it is nice neat and crisp signature. Think about it, do you really think he had time to sit down and sign that photo perfectly? I don't think so, you have to remember celebrities are constantly getting mobbed by people, and when you usually get a signature like that in public, you are going to get a scribble on photo at the most. A key part of ebay autograph shopping is a photo. It is great if they have a photo of the star signing the item! Great Authenticity! Remember, Certificates of Authenticity aren't worth the paper they are printed on! Be Careful!
