Adult Children

Hi everyone. I'm just curious to see if anyone had the same problem I do with my adult daughter. She's going to be 22 years old in Feburary.(I think she's going on 6). Anyway, she was to take her car up to the mechanic to get an oil change. She wouldn't go alone and she made me tell them she brought the car up. (we live a mile away). Said it would take about an hour, so we had to walk home. I can't seem to get her to do anything on her own. She goes to college so I don't know if her friends do everything for her or not. When it comes to buying, taking her car somewhere, going to the doctor or anything else, either mom or dad have to be with her or her younger sisters. Then she makes them and us do all the talking. She is very shy but give me a break. Isn't it time she did things on her own. She wouldn't even call to make the appointment to get the oil changed, her dad had to. Someday I hope she learns to do things on her own. Do any of you have this problem? How do you handle it?

I was pretty shy too, and kinda still am. With making appointments, maybe you can both be on the phone at the same time. You can make the next call and she can do the one after that - with you on another line. That might help her feel more at ease???

Never thought of that. I will have to try it the next time she comes home. I know she will have to call the mechanics again when she can get the money to fix her tie rods in her car. We will have to try then.

Make her do it. You constantly baby this child and do things for her. What do you expect??? if she can get u to do it, then why not?

Sorry I don't baby my daughter. I just can't stand the whining she does. She sits and begs and pleads with us to do this stuff for her. Soon she will be on her own totally and she will have to do this stuff.
