Okay, I just watched Nancy accept the gavel and become Speaker of the House. All the networks covered it and everybody in the USA with a TV turned on watched it. I thought it was fantastic. One person in my house is already grousing about missing the soaps.
This is the highest political office any American woman has ever achieved and it probably makes Nancy Pelosi the most powerful woman on earth. Is this a happy day for the USA or not? Try not to argue along party lines. This could open doors for Condaleeza too.
Also would like to hear some world opinion here. It occurs to me that some of the countries who claim they despise us because of George Bush just might hate us even more now.

Nancy Pelosi did not need any doors opened for her. I strongly suspect that neither does Condaleeza Rice. Consider that Condaleeza Rice holds possibly the most important cabinent post in the executive branch.
Condaleeza Rice could probably win the Presidency if she ran. Nancy Pelosi currently could not.
These are 2 powerful women, each of a different party. I suspect each of not needing any doors opened for her.
Kind of makes you wonder how they would respond when a man out of courtesy does open an actual door for them. There still are a few old fashioned guys around.

They are tough ladies but I suspect they would still appreciate having a door or two opened for them...a literal door that is, not a political door. As you said, they did that for themselves.

It is great. Finally women are being recognized. I imagine certain countries think of there women as just chattels with have a field day bashing us again.

I think so... the same countries that don't like Geo Bush are also not going to like this even though you can't get any farther apart than these two.
