Do you help bag your groceries or just stand there and wait?

I've noticed that some of the grocery stores are so short handed that the cashiers have to take care of the customers and bag the groceries all still while trying to pay 100% attention to the customer. So, do you pitch in with the bagging or just wait until the cashier does it?

I always bag, it makes it easier when I put items away. My canned goods are together, frozen foods together, bread and eggs, refrigerator items together. I have seen cashier throw grapes in with a 5lb bag of sugar, lol.

I know what you mean. It's frustrating when you know you've purchased ice cream and it's in with your bathroom cleaner. lol Thanks for your response.

I always assist if there isn't a bagger to do the job. My husband will do the bagging even if there is a bagger. He tends to do a poor job of it. I end up scorning him for putting bananas in with the bread or meat in with soap. I would rather do it myself if I had a choice. I shop at Aldi quite often and you have to bag your own groceries and either buy your bags or bring your own.

We don't have any stores that you have to bring your own bags to, I guess that helps to keep costs down. My husband does pretty good at bagging but he falls short when it comes to putting stuff into he pantry. He'd rather leave the stuff on the counter. lazy, lazy, lazy lol. Thanks for responding.

When I bring the groceries in, Mr Neat Nut puts them away so fast it makes my head spin.

if they're really short on hand, i pack my own bags, especially if there's already a long line behind me. i take great joy in packing my own groceries, in fact, it makes me feel really useful.

Nice! I'd love that. I remember when all grocery stores where I live used to be like that. Times are tough and sometimes they just don't have anyone there to do it. Thanks for your response.

When I see they are short staffed or if the employee is in training, I will help bag my grocery. I do alot of self checkout so most of the time I bag my own grocery anyway.

It is hard for cashiers today. I try to help if they do not have anyone to help them when I shop at stores that have baggers. I do shop alot at sav-a-lot and you bag your own there. So, it doesn't bother me. Course if the cashier is really fast, she/he may not want your help as they may be faster. :)

Some cashiers are done before I even think about helping. Thanks for your response.

most of the stores are not having separate people for doing this.the cahier has to do it after finishing their work.i wont wait for the cashier to bag my groceries.after billing few items i will bag mine and will help them.if we are going for self service then we will be doing it.so why dont we do the same when going for billing from a cashier.

If they are busy and don't have a bagger I will help, it not only helps the cashier but helps you get out quicker, and helps people behind you get out quicker.

I let the cashier do it. My mom is a cashier so maybe she would be grateful if a lot more people helped bag groceries.

it depends for me, if they are packing them straight into the bag as they scan them then i let them do it, but if the groceries are banking up on the other side of the register then i usually help out. Sometimes its better to do it yourslef anyway as i have had bananas in with the tins on top of them on more than one occasion.
