A Case of Being Desperate or Stupid?

I read an article today which explains how a woman faces over two dozen charges related to her fraudulant attempts to get painkiller pills..by using her dogs (Zack) name! According to the article, this girl was a veterinary technician who had tried many times to call in perscriptions under their ID number..using her dogs name!

Have you ever heard of someone taking such desperate measures to get pills? What measures did they take? What do you think her punishment should be? Is it a case of stupidity or being desperate?

It's definitely a case of desperation- an addict needs those pills, at whatever cost. We've had patients from our clinic attempt to call pharmacies and say that they were me, calling in pain pills. Of course all of the local pharmacies know my voice, and they also know that I don't do pain pills over the phone- written script only! A friend's brother just got fired from his job as a dental hygienist for calling in pain pills for himself. The abuse of prescription medications is really becoming a huge problem, especially among the young adults.

An addict doesn't really think about the outcome of what they are doing. All they can think about is getting their next fix. I have seen an addict go to desperate measures to get what they want. They lie and even though it sounds like a stupid lie they convince theirselves that it sounds believeable. It is sad to see this behavior and addictions people have.

nothing can really suprised me on this world...just feel so sorry for her because she has addiction problem and needs intensive treatment.

Definitely desperate. Addicts resort to anything, anywhere, any way to get a fix. That's the problem of being an addict. It's really sad.

it sure seems to be a case of both.i frankly think that the woman in question should be forced to go into rehab right away.that said most of these habits are mainly addictions and can be overcome.

I think she's both stupid and was desparte. I'm glad she got caught though because I think it's wrong to use her dog that way.

Wow that is desperate and she obviously is severely addicted to these pills
what a shame. I have been desperate in other ways but not like that. When I was that badly desperate with some other things, I was in a very bad state of mind as well.

a family friend's father broke her arm once so that the doctor would give her painkiller prescription adnd her father took thepills... he went to jail for 5 years. i think this women should be sent to rehab

Wow. it sounds to me like she is addicted to painkillers and is desperate to get ahold of them. It is crazy the lenghts that people will go to when they are under the thrall of an addiction. This was a very interesting news story, and I will be taking a link at the look that you posted and looking into this further! ^_^
