Two classical pathological effects of alcoholism on the liver are : - Fatty liver which is common in persons with moderate alcoholism - continued drinking leads to hepatitis in 90 per cent of cases - Alcoholic hepatitis, which can also be associated with non-alcoholic hepatitis. Symptoms of alcoholic hepatitis usually appear insidiously with anorexia, nausea, vomiting, weight loss with jaundice. Low-grade fever and abdoominal pain are usually seen. Sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeding, coma, cardiac or renal failures are life threatening complications.
