LOL. I had a doberman that lived to be old that ate tootsie rolls all the time too. Makes you wonder about chocolate being fatal to a dog doesn't it?

she would have lived longer if we didn't put her to sleep but she was starting to stink and go blind and other stuff.

Sometimes you have to do what is best for them. It's hard but not right to make them suffer.

My oldest dog lived to be 15 years old. He ended up getting cancer and passed away real quickly after that.

That's an elderly dog. It's hard to lose them at that age and to something like that, but at least you knew that he lived a long life.

Hi net -- I think it depends on the breed. I think there are some breeds where the life expectency is even less than that.

I'm sorry to hear that. What kind of dog is it? What kind of health problems does it have? It's always sad to see an animal with problems like that. They can't even speak to tell us what's wrong.

Our dog, Jessie, is still going strong and she is 18 years. Perhaps strong is not quite the right word because she has arthritis and is almost deaf but she still manages to get around. She actually belongs to our son and we always have 'custody' of her when he is away. She used to be a working dog (kelpie cross) but has done nothing like that for years. The downside is that often when we go away we cannot take her with us so we pay a young friend to look after her and he does an excellent job. She is too old to be put in a kennel now and is quite happy to be in her own home all the time. As long as the medication for her arthritis is working we will keep her but have agreed that if the time comes when she is suffering then we will have her put to sleep. I only hope that doesn't come but instead she passed in her own time.

Ohh, I can imagine Jessie is greatly loved and adored and worth the extra trouble. Love her and enjoy her because you know she won't be around for very many more years..

Medium size I'd say. He got very sick and had to be put down, unfortunately.
