It is our utmost duty is to help the poor, the human beings are born equal but due to their fate some may taking birth in the rich families and some take birth in the poor families. It is our duty to provide some sort of help to them whenever we get opportunity. We should not discrinate against the poor, though they are economically or financially poor that is not be ground for discrimation. Like we do number of things in a day for ourself it is also out duty that we taken birth in the society we should think that at least 10 minutes we should dedicate our time to the poor. There is a proverb in Sanskrit langauge which goes on to say that if you help the poor it is nothing but doing service to the god. We should emolute the above and help the poor, some people spend lot of amounts to the god in expectency that it would give some sort of goodness to ourself. But we should realise that we can get goodness when we help the poor.

I try to give my best. I agree that it is our duty. Also I think we should give to people who cant request for it but are in need. Its I've read, way better than giving to people on the streets.

Yes we should help those less fortunate but not to the extent that they come to rely on help from others rather than them trying to help themselves. In some instances the greatest help you can give some people is to help them learn how to cook, clean, budget plus get and keep a job. Charity is one thing but unfortunately some people come to rely on it as a way of life, rather than doing things to improve their own situation.
