If you were around in the 60's you will remember PJ Proby, he was absolutely gorgeous with his songs "Hold ME" & "Walking The Dog" and not to mention "Mission Bells". he played the part of Elvis on stage and was applauded, he really did sound like Elvis, his version of The American Trilogy brought tears to my eyes. He came to Australia a couple of years ago and blew the audience away. He has since gone back to the stage and played Johnny Cash and I believe he was absolutely sensational, I really would love to see him as Johnny Cash or anyone for that matter I think he really is the best, he is one of the last true idols.

PJ Proby - PJ Proby album
Will I be giving my age away if I admit to knowing PJ Proby I wonder lilaclady? LOL Yes I do and think that anyone who is around our age and listening to music will definately remember him. As you said not only did he record his own songs but he also played many other singing sensations of that era. I saw him in Sydney at one of the Clubs a lifetime ago and yes he was great then. Thanks for the nostalgia trip on this one lilaclady and here is a photo of his Album "Very Best of PJ Proby".

I've heard of him but never heard his music, although i'm pretty sure I know 'Walking the Dog' thinking about it... But he must be pretty good to be able to play both Elvis and Johnny Cash! Have you seen the Johnny Cash movie 'Walking the Line'? If so, what did you think? I thought it was pretty good, especially as I didn't really know much about him (more into British music of that time).

its a wonder you haven't heard of him, he used to have a pony tail, one of the first I would think and he was famous for splitting his pants on stage...I haven't seen the Johnny Cash movie.. I was always an Elvis fan I thought he was the king until I was invited to see PJ Proby by the Proby fan club, when he was in Melbourne, I not only came out a fan I honestly think he is probably better than Elvis and at his age that is something, I was just completely blown away with his voice, the Trilogy song was amazing, I couldn't believe what I had seen.
