Making Friends online is good or bad

well yeah i too agree that it is good for passing time. but i really wonder how true the friendship can be.well we cant rely on that kind of a freindship fro long.infact people may chat u also in the net. we can take it seriously. then i have once heard that2 people became friends in the net. one of them told that his mother was sick,he was poor and so he wanted money and the other 1 also had given .later on it was found out that he was cheated. also in another case a man actually said he was young and loved a girl in the net. he happened to go ot that girl's city . they both planed to meet and when the girl went to his lodging place to meet him , she found out that he was an aged person . the worst thing is that he raped her. i have heard of many cases like this. so best i think is not to believe friends in internet.
