Should we phase out the 50-year old reservation/quota system?

It is over 50 years since we became a republic. The reservation system for ST/SC/BC was really necessary and still is. But isn't there a limit to everything? After all, even meritorious students are not getting seats in for example, engg.colleges. A 'India Today' survey quoted that, out of over 6 lakh seats in engg. colleges throughout the country, only about 2.2 lakh seats were available for open category (OC). Even BC/SC students who have got seats to the prestigious educational portals like IIT's and IIM's are later regretting not having applied for a quota seat. They feel ashamed of having got seats via the quota system. They feel they would have felt more self-respect if they had competed in the OC category. My suggestion is that the centre announce a 15 year or 20 year limit for this reservation system and close it after that period, making education and jobs available on the basis of merit.

The quota system provided to Non-Indians of third world countries in professional courses upto 3% reservation in the seats. Again it differs subject wise. At present in India only African students were allowed to study. But Internationally the rankings were poor for studies in India.

As a third world country, we need growth of economic conditions and self sufficiency. But as a republic under Democratic system it is an error made by Great Leaders. They have not seen the future broadly and implemented the Reservation system. Unless the leaders realise the problem now, the future of India going to be very critical. This makes people of India, going to spend more money towards Education than now. Because more number of colleges going to spare seats for SC/ST/BC category. This forces more colleges, backed by politicians for getting scholarships from Govt., reduces level of teaching for making quick money. Resulting parents search for Good Institutions, on the process incurring heavy expenditure. Unless the democratic system is vanished, India even after 100 years of republic seems just like that. As per my opinion Globalisation of Education is a right solution subject to supervision of UNO. UNO has to make Interviews like 'Campus Interviews for Jobs' to identify the students at school level. This makes lots to Education and to India in particular.

its a waste thing... how can u select ppl based on thr caste and creed.. if govt really wanna work for upliftment of backward class it should start providing them with primary and secondary free education... it doesnt make sense of quotas in post graduate studies... i hv myself seen many of this ppl leave course halfway and so we are at loss... the seat just gets wasted whn some aspiring good student could haev studied well with those seat and helped nation... provide ppl with basic necessities rather than starting up this quota things...
