I am very interested in owning a Newfie in the near future. I am an experienced dog trainer so I know the basics of animal behavior but I want to hear from owners about their dogs personalities.

I love my Newfie. I just got my puppy on Dec 21 2007 and I love her more than any other dog I've ever had. Sure all puppies will be different, but she's a sweet, lazy, and smart dog. My boyfriend and I have taught her every trick we can think of and haven't even had to go to puppy classes for it. She also picks them up within 5 mins. The first night we had her we were able to get her to sit and lay down. She was only 6wks old. She loves on everyone and I haven't had any complaints about her. I highly recommend a Newfie over any other breed. Of course you'll have to worry about drooling, but a bandana around the neck is a wonderful thing to wipe them up anytime. I didn't even know about Newfies until my bf suggested we get one(his best friends mom was a newf breeder and thats what made him love them). I'm sure I will always have a newf even after she passes.

Also, something that is wonderful about the breed is that they will always have a puppy face. The droopy eyes will get you everytime. I can never be upset with my dog when she gives me the "sad look". This breed isn't one to bark or howl or bite. They aren't aggressive which is nice. They will also find a place in your house to call their own. Usually its a tile floor like a bath room. They love the cold feeling of it. Another thing, when they are a puppy don't power feed them like alot of people do. Twice a day is best with a food like Eagle Pack Puppy. If they grow to fast they will end up with joint and hip problems like alot of the larger breed dogs. Another thing.. when they get about 5 months (not all but some do this) they may be really picky on eating.. maybe only eating once a day or once every 3 or 4 days. Don't worry. Its just a breed thing. My dog does this and I freaked out until I talked to someone who breeds them. Hope I helped you! :)

Are you going to adopt me I am a Newfie as they tend to call us from Newfoundland? lol I don't have a Newfoundland dog but I know they are a beautiful breed and have great personalities. When I was a kid, people down the road had Newfoundland dogs. I was never afraid of them. You could play with them and they never nipped or barked at you, just drooled sometimes. My ex's mother used to raise them. She loved them. I remember going to visit her and my daughter was about 8 months at the time. I have pictures of her practically sitting ontop of the Newfie dogs. So I can't help from an owners point of view but just the times I spend with them as a kid and that one vacation.
