What was before chicken or egg?

has to be the egg. it could have been a slightly evolved species of another animal that laid the egg while going through another stage of evolution, this then would lead to accelerated evolution as the egg developers and the conditions in which it is laid, because of this the egg could be a slightly differant species to the host mother, the new species, a chicken, which was born from the egg. this then concludes that the egg came before the chicken and problem solved. would anyone care to put a differant argument forward? khris
