This in a way is a silly question because it's like comparing a cell phone to a land line phone, Laptops are meant for portibility and while they have somewhere close to the same performance as the best desktops you will pay alot more $$$ for them, not to mention 99% of laptops are very limited as to the parts you can upgrade usually it's only Ram, Hard Drive, and fan you can upgrade. Desktops can be custom built or bought cheap as well as upgraded on your own, not to mention most are more powerful than that of a laptop. The only advantage I have with my laptop is mobility, but I much prefer my Desktop over my laptop!

laptop is not good just for portibility alone it is good for a lot of things just like a desktop, but the only advantage the laptop has over a desktop is portibility.

they both have their advantages and disadvantages.A laptop is portable and willnot occupy more space but it has its limitations in upgrading.A desktop is not portable and will occupy space but can be upgraded as we like.but my choice is a laptop

You'll ultimately want both in the end. Thats the only solution to your problem. If you get a desktop, you'll find a reason to want a laptop, and vise versa. Like everyone else said, both have their advantages and disadvantages. You just have to pick the one with the least amount of disadvantages for your personal preference.

I'm probably biased when I say desktop. With desktops you have alot more options for expansion and its a lot easier to upgrade than a laptop. Ofcourse if you don't know anything about computer hardware to begin with it won't matter.
