Is filing bankruptcy best for me?

I am in a lot of debt. Most of it is from hospital bills , about $15,000, when I had no insurance and was sick. I also have two credit cards which are about 5,000 together. I voluntarily turned in a car that I was buying because it kept giving me problems. It is listed as a voluntary reposession. The car was sold for way less than it should have been and they expect me to pay the remaining loan amount. The city I live in has very few jobs and I don't have one yet. Most people won't even give you a chance if your credit is not good. I've been looking for a job since August. We only have a community college here and one private four year college that only offers Early/Elementary Childhood Education. I was traveling to the nearest city 50 miles away to go to college, but it got so expensive and I could not afford it. I was spending $400 per month in gas and my loan was not enough to help me. I finished that one semester and haven't been able to go back yet. I thought about pursuing online education but am not sure if employers actually recognize the degrees. Should I file bankruptcy or should I continue trying to find a job and pay on these bills? Has anyone gotten an online degree and if so have you had any success with it?

Have you checked into Hill Burton for paying your hospital bills? I had lots of hospital stays when my hubby wasn't making as much as he does now. I think you can actually make quite a bit and still qualify. I live in Pa and am not sure if this is a federal program or not. Some hospital accept money from the government and in return don't make lower income people pay if they know about the program anyhow. Secondly some online degrees are good but those are the exception. Thomas Edison, Charter Oak and another I can't think of but they have what they called the regents and are in NY (sorry for the laspe in memory) are the big 3 I think. What I think I would do if I were in your situation is investigate the Clep tests. There are website dedicated to helping you pass these tests for college credit. If you are entering a credible online college, the clep tests should save you lots of time and money. Each clep is worth so many college credits. The tests are really cheap compared with actual tuition. HTH

Don't give up. There's always a silver lining at the end of the journey. Keep trying to find yourself a job . . . look upon this as a temporary phase and keep moving

I presume you live in the United States. You could one thing which is unusual...nobody is going to tell you this.I suppose you have watched the God christian television network. Phone them up at their Washington offices. Their prayer partners are waiting for your call. You first confess that you are a sinner to them. They will agree with you in prayer for God's special favor. You then sow a seed, that is send God Tv a gift of whatever amount that comes in your heart. On the back of the check write whatever is your need... Remember you are only naming your harvest for the seed that you are sowing. The age old principle of sowing and reaping will work for you as well. While you are doing this, if you have anything against anyone, forgive them. Expect a miracle and thank God everyday. After your need is met (there is no doubt about it) please write to me at this address...gfsundert@gmail.com. I am interested to see God's miracle working power in your life. That's all. Good luck

Its a bad situation and I feel sorry for you but I do not think that your debt is too high. I have few suggestions: a. You can contact an expert and seek advice over whether you can file for Chapter 7 or not. b. You can have a settlement with all the creditors and seek their professional guidance. Give them the scenario that you are into and how you can recover from it. c. Take some loan from a near and dear one and pay off the debt. Use some part of that money to move to a place where you can get better career options (is possible). d. Be positive and get over it.

I think it would be better and a more viable option, if u move to a bigger city wherein there are more job opportunities. If dis takes tyme, u can give home tuitions for a while earn some and den when u are in a better position move over. In the mean while work on other options.

In my personal opinion I think you should file Chapter 7. We did about 4 years ago & it was the best thing we ever did. I had a lot of medical bills as well & my husband had been out of work for 1 1/2 yrs. We have a now 6 yrs old (then 2 1/2). We just had no alternative. My husband is now working again & we have gotten a fresh start. Yeah it took a little while for the credit card companies to approve us for any cards but now I get so many offers, I have to turn them down. I just don't want to ever go through that mess again. But like I said, for us, it was a lifesaver. I would if I were you. Good luck in whatever you decide.
