I have used totally 8 Linux distros. Out of that, Ubuntu and PCLinuxOS are found to be very easy for beginners. The basic things are just like windows and therefore no confusion in using them. Gnome sektop Environment is always easy to use.
But there are some distros which are very tough for installation, you should know all sort of basic commands to operate. But after installation, they are infinitely configurable. That's the main advantage.

I personally use Ubuntu and found it really easy to use. Its a great starter distribution and I think its also a great distribution to keep as a replacement for Windows. The package manager is what makes it a lot easier to use than previous versions I have tried such as Fedora Core.
