From Small Town to Big City: Difficult transition?

United States

I grew up in a little cow town in California and I rarely visit big cities. Even the college that I currently attend is in a smaller community that isn't very urbanized. For my future job, I'm 95% sure that I will be forced to move into a big city. I was wondering if any of you out there have experienced a change from small town life to big city life? If you have, any advice you can provide to prepare me? If you currently live in the big city and always have, how hard do you think the changes will be? Thanks!

I have had a very big transition from a sleepy town when I was single to a bustling metro when I got married and then just as I was getting used to the Metro my husband moved abroad to Europe so that was a gigantic step. Well moving from a sleepy town to a bustling metropolis may seem a daunting task or may seem very difficult but then in due course of time you will get the hang of it. The best way to learn where things are and how the system works would be to take a walk around the place you would be living in and take the public transport to take you around so that you understand the system.
