Hi everyone, was just wondering who had been to Montreal, what you thought of it, if you liked it or not. And how many people want to go someday to visit. It's a fascinating city and the only big one nearby so I'm interested in knowing how it measures up to some others.

i love montreal. i havent been there in years but quebec has this old world european charm about it. a taste of france in north america! very busy and lively! i like it better than toronto. the people are nice and i get to speak "frelish" i would move to quebec in a heartbeat! my bf is always making fun of the quebec accent though. he said that they sound "funny" compared to the french in france. but the accent in montreal is not as bad. i cant tell the difference. but i guess you have to be french in order to notice!

haha, here we feel hat the french from france is the funny-sounding one ;) actually i'm an anglophone so i can be a bit objective about this...in fact both the quebecois french and french from france both sound a bit peculiar to my ears, even though the quebecois style is much more comfortable to me since i'm used to it.

Hello everyone I am originally from the south shore of Montréal. Its like 2 different world really and at the time, i preferred the south shore way better than Montréal. But I am now living in England and I must admit how much i miss Montréal...Living in england been a big eye opener and it is certainly not like i thought is was (what we see on telly and all)... seems to me like a society in perdition (booze, violence and all) Montréal is one of the safest city in the world.. so yes.. i miss it a lot.

I went to montreal in september for a few days. It is very large and fun. The club scene is pretty good and there are people out and about downtown until 3 or 4 am. Overall though I found it boring. I'm from Vancouver and I found it to just be the french version of vancouver. It has a lot of shopping but its all the same stuff you find in any major city center.

Been there many times, mostly to play in soccer tournis or to watch Canadiens games. I live 1 hour from Montreal. I love it there, it's a whole different environment. Lots to do there, shop, eat, drink watch sports or just visit a nice old city like Old Quebec.

I have been to Montreal on a tour, and there are many fascinating places to go and see there. The buildings of streets in Montreal have beautiful designs to them. But of course, tours probably include only the best of the city, but i think it is worthwhile to go and visit.

Yup great place! I love the clubs and shopping in Montreal. A little pricey to stay overnight, but it is worth the visit.

it is a fun place to visit, a bit more boring if you`ve lived here you`re whole life, like me ;) apparently our bars and strip-clubs are very famous. there is a lot of shopping, and many night clubs, a lot of local bands playing live shows almost every night of the week. in the summer, we are known as `festival central` because of the large amount of festivals we host, such as fant-asia film festival, world film festival, international jazz festival, francofolies de montreal (french music festival)

You may laugh but I was in Montreal for Expo '67 - that was 1967! But I would go back right now if I could. They have a very nice subway system for getting around. (A charm that my other fave city Wash DC has.) It is a very cosmopolitan city, one of the few places with a French presence in NOrth America (the other being New Orleans which is in a tough rebuilding phase and has other problems). But the people were very nice, very helpful, and even if your French is poor they help you out. Canadians are great anyway. I thought it was a very beautiful city, lots of trees on the avenues, lots going on...I loved it and as I said I would love to go back every year...

I was in Montreal about 3 weeks ago because I live in Ottawa, I didn't think it was anything spectacular except there was 16 year olds all over the place getting trashed, I do like however all the museums they have on the french side.

I was in Montreal two summer ago and absolutely loved it! The people were really nice and really patient with me when I was trying to practice my French. My favorite part of Montreal was the shopping. I was able to get amazing French designer clothes for North American prices. Talk about the best of both worlds! I have not been to English-speaking Canada or any other Canadian cities so I really can't compare.

Montreal is a glorious city full of life. My husband is from there and we go visit every time we get the chance. I love sitting at the cafes and people watching. And montreal bagels really are the best. Too bad I can't eat them anymore because I'm vegan. :( Can't wait to visit again.

I've lived in Montreal my whole life, I've seen some other nice cities but I love Montreal. I would only live somewhere else if I had to for some reason.

I have never been to Canada at all but hope to change that one day. When I hear Montreal I think of snow, because I have friends that visited there and their stories included snow. I guess it's not always like that. I can't compare the city since I haven't been there. I recently visited New York City and that was really cool. There's a lot to see.
