I was reading an article that 1 in every 3 women have experienced an abortion or will before they reach the age of 22.Out of curiosity, what is it like experiencing such a huge life altering decision?

It's personally not for me, as in when I fell pregnant at 16 I could not bring myself to do it, I was too curious about my baby, but I have 2 sisters who have gone thru with it. My older sister has done it 3 times and is just about to do it for the 4th time and that makes me so sad and angry at the same time as I feel like I will never become an aunty. But, I also realise that its not my body, but also its like, well if you don't want them, then why concieve them? My other sister was very young when she had hers, and, nearly ten years on, has made sure that she hasn't gotten pregnant again, purely because shes's not ready to become a mum. Alot of young girls are just way too scared of what the repercussions are if thier parents find out, or it might be getting in the way of thier life plans and its just easier to terminate the pregnancy. I guess there are always couples out there that wish one of them would adopt out the child would go to loving parents and a good home. I am glad, personally, that I carried on with my pregnancy as I now have a beautiful 10 year old daughter to brag about. Not only that, I have had 3 more daughters after that, all spaced 3 years apart and I just love it. It was hard at 16, watching my friends able to go out while I stayed at home most times, and it is so tough as your still growing up yourself, but it does get better and time flies so fast. I am lucky that afetr my family got over the shock of me getting pregnant, they have been there for me 100% since.

I didn't have an abortion but I did have two miscarriages before I was 22...was never sure I'd have a baby then..as it was I had one at 24 and then it took me 9 years later to have another..and they didn't think that would have another after the first one. Guess I fooled them...

To me abortion is taboo. It's better to use contraceptives than to abort.

I don't think that is right. 1 out of 3? maybe including miscarriages and baby deaths. My best friend had an abortion in high school. Only a few of us knew. She was a 4.0 student, ASB President and very popular. She wanted to go to UC Santa Barbara and if she had had the baby her goals would of been ruined and MAYBE not finished her career. I don't know if I would have an abortion...I would have a really strong reason to have one.

I was wondering the same thing...in all of theese topics most are just asking "is it right or wrong"...I am just interested in personal experience... I would like to see this topic get going... women who have had an abortion...I wonder what the experience was like to them?, maybe some even had positive experiences...on the flip side maybe people who have not experienced an abortion could theorize and imagine what it might be like and share that... good topic for reaching out and really connecting deep with people, beyond what some may consider to be morbid or just a political/religious topic....
