Hi everyone! I am thinking of re-entering the work field this upcoming fall when my baby starts school. I am really looking for something that has a similar schedule as the kids school. Mainly working 7-3 or something close to that and having summer break with them. I am struggling with coming up with careers that I would enjoy that meet this criteria. I would also consider working something different if it could just be a couple of days a week. Do you guys have any suggestions?

After reading all responses to this discussion, I have a couple of other ideas. There is such a thing as job sharing, have you checked on anything like that? I don't know where people are who talk about 8-4 or 9-5. In my 25+ years of experience, I have never seen this. It is more common everywhere I have lived to see 7-4 or 8-5 (most common). There is also an idea of a home based business, which is what I do. This allows me the flexibility to work my schedule around my family. I think it is wonderful you have been able to be home with your baby until school age. I have always felt these are the most formative of a childs life & whenever possible one of the parents should be home with their children. It is commendable! KUDOOS to you and your hubby!

Hi! I have always thought of that also since I have an 8 month old son, however...I got pregnant again so I have to stay at home. It's kind of hard not to earn anything and depend on your husband though. Well, why don't you start your own business. Start a day care center where you can take care of your child and at the same time work. Get some office work also. Right now, since I have nothing to do..I'm just doing this and looking for online opportunities.

Hi, I have 2 kids too and have stopped work for about 7 years since the birth of my daughter. Just when I thought I could go out to work at least part time to help supplement the family income my number 2 came along. So right now, I'm trying to get some money online if possible....

Check with your child's school. It would be super convenient to work at the school, and you would have the same days off as your child and the same hours. Maybe in the library or cafeteria if you don't have a degree. =)

If I could find some kind of legitimate work at home job that would be great! Most at home jobs don't pay worth crap or are scams. If you have any great ones to recommend please do.

May i suggest working at home? You can actually do some typing or data entry job while having a flexible time to spend with your children. =)

It would be nice to know what type of work you are looking for. Working 7-3 reminds me of either some type of factory work or work in the healthcare field. Office work is usually from 8-4 or 9-5 but there are some opportunities out there in data entry, etc. that you might be able to work. If you only need to work a couple days a week it may be easier to find something during those hours. Good luck!

I would say that working in a school (either your child's or a nearby school) or working from home will be your best bet. You could also try starting a service type business for working parents; pet walking, house cleaning, errand running, etc. A couple of things that I do in order to combine the need for money and being home with my children is chacha.com, writing articles, and secret shopping. I average $600/month for these jobs.

Some places that are open 24 hours might be a good place to start looking for a schedule like that. Perhaps Meijer's, Walgreens, CVS. Also some fast food places open early like Tim Hortons, McDonalds, Duncan Donuts. A bakery might be another place to look, since they start very early as well. Those are just a few I thought of real quick, if I can think of more I'll make another post.

Have you checked with the school system for any openings? Even if you are not certified to teach, you can work in the office, cafeteria, bus route and as a substitute teacher. Many subs work daily and its a great job if you need flexibility! 7-3 would be a hospital schedule if you have any experience in that area. Good luck!

well the type of job you are looking for...the best would to go into education feild. U can start ur carreer by being a teacher or a lecturere as it will not consume much of time....respectful and brainy job. I would not suggest you to go for any MNC or any office job because it consumes your entire day..u will not be able to give time to your kid and family....

Did you ever think about driving a school bus? The hours are good, pay is ok, and most private companies let you take your children on the bus with you. So you don't have to worry about child care.

i suggest that u should take a part time job somewhere which would enable u to work as well be with u r child rest of the time. well if u r good at teaching u can become a teacher somewhere or the best thing would be that u can become a teacher in the school where u r kid is admitted, in this way u can do both things.
