christmas present dilema

I am sure it is a common dilema that family members give you christmas presents that you know you will never use. Do you politely accept them and say thank you? Is there some other strategy you tend to use? Does anyone up front say that they can't use it and ask for an exchange? Anything else?

Well, I say thanks and if its something I definately can't use, For instance it doesn't fit, I ask for the reciept, But if its a cheapthing I don't want, I say thanks and keep it. Its the thought that counts most of the time.
