There once was very poor man living in a village who had a very fine horse. So fine, in fact, that the lord of the castle wanted to buy it. But the old man always refused.
"To me this horse is not merely an animal. He's a friend.
How could I sell you my friend?"One morning he went to the stable and found his horse gone.
All the villagers said, "We told you! You should have sold your horse. Now he's been stolen instead. What terrible luck."
"Bad luck or good luck," the old man said. "Who can say?"Everyone laughed at him. But 15 days later the horse returned, followed by a whole herd of wild horses. He had escaped from the stable, courted a young mare, and returned with the rest of the herd following behind!
"What luck!" the villagers cried.
The old man and his son began training the wild horses. But a week later the man's son broke his leg trying to train one of the horses.
"Bad luck," said his friends. "What are you going to do now without your son to help you? You who are already so poor."
"Bad luck, good luck, who can say?" the old man replied.
A few days later an army belonging to the lord of the land passed through the village and forced all the young men to become soldiers. All... except the old man's son, because of his broken leg.
"How lucky you are," the villagers cried. "All our children are gone to war, but you've been able to keep your son. Our sons will probably be killed..."
The old man replied, "Bad luck, good luck... who can say?"The future comes to us in bits and pieces. We never know what lies in store for us. But if you always maintain a positive attitude the doors of chance remain open, and you will be a happier person.

That's a very good story, Deeeky, and yes, I agree with you, it is good to always maintain a positive attitude. People only kick you whilst you're down.
Notice also how the bad luck is put on the grouchers, the ones who are always complaining, "you should have done this", "you should have done that". Make your own decisions, hold your head high and have faith, for they are the gift of the best and most successful man.

You are so right my friend! When I do get really down I think "lets just get through the day", when I wake up the next day it is new and fresh and after a nights sleep a lot of upset really does loose it's sharp edges, lol.
Take care and big hugs to you!

Yes keeping a positive attitude is what we all should do, it's really hard sometimes but at least we should try.. thanks for the story, many times in my life what i though was a bad luck turned to be for the better, we just don't realize it at the time :)

I am a very positive person. I never let anything get me down....I always look on the sunny side of things. If something happens that seems to be negative I always say....it could be worse. Like attracts like....so if you think positive you have more of a chance that things will go right for you on the whole. I try not to surround myself with negative people although sometimes it is difficult because of circumstances. My roommate, for example, has no luck whatsoever. She is a perfect example of Murphy's law. I try to get her to look on the bright side of things but it is really very difficult. She is a wonderful person always willing to help others. She works 26 hours a day (or so it seems)...she is literally driving herself into the grave and she's only 62. When I try to sell my philosophy she says.....you're an American you don't understand....whatever that is supposed to mean. I am not a lucky person by any stretch of the imagination but I don't have bad luck either. I have no complaints on what life has bestowed on me and I owe it all to my positive attitude.
PS: When you things are going really bad think of the following: I cried because I had no shoes..until I saw a child with no feet.
Good discussion and great story.

Wow! my sentiments exactly!I am one person who was shunned by my family and the world in my worst times. For a long time I longed for my family to look at me the way I wanted them to.It never happened. Now I only believe in god. I have deep faith in him resulting in complete disappearence of expectations of any kind from my family.I have good cordial relations with them but no matter what situation I am in,I rely on god's help and know that this too shall pass......and I will see good times again. My life has improved considerably and I am a happier person.

Thanks for sharing that story, I really enjoyed it. In todays world where everything and everyone seems to charge around at 100 miles per hour, it can be difficult to remember to look on the bright side of situations and instead people become judgemental. I know I definately feel happier within myself when I try to look for the best in situations, and I find it makes the people around me happier too.

Laughter is the best medicine. God has given us trials in life for us to solve and guiding us to be a stronger and tough person,,,having a positive attitude will give us a feeling that we won't give up that esily it gives us hope and later on,,giving us the strength to solve our problems how big or small it might be =)

This is a great story, and the moral is true. What we focus on in our every day lives expands. If we are humdrum and focused on nothing but the bad stuff, we get the bad stuff, but if we focus on positivity and growth, that is what is returned to us. Thank you for sharing your story.

Humdrum is a word that I have not heard in a very long time. Thanks for reminding me that word existed LOL. It looks like that kind of word does not belong in happy peoples lives and probably with a lot of other words like that as well.

It's nice to have a positive attitude all the time. Although, I may say, it's hard.. because we live in a world that is full of complications, lies, deceit, and darkness.. but if you hold on to your faith and know that God is in control, then yes.. it's not that hard to live positively ;) I am sometimes not like that but the Lord teaches me to live like that.. not thinking of anything negative. It's my choice.. happiness is a choice ;)

This has made me realize something, positive attitude is important thing in the world, and see what happened with Roger Federer, (1st Tennis player ranked) he said he always have positive attitude no matter what if he loses on one match. And he recently lose this longest winning streak on 41, which is 4th ranked of history. He didn't get mad, he'll continue to think positive. Now you see, he's in 1st rank who have a positive attitude.
