Did you homeschool?

If so for how long? What was your home school experience like? Would you homeschool your children also? I homeschooled from fifth grade on - all the way through highschool. I went on to college, am very outgoing and have always had jobs related to working with people and teaching. Now I'm a mother of two (so far) and am considering homeschooling my own children.

No, neither received or given, DON'T DO IT. there are plenty of non-school like activities to teach them they need input from others and a wider social group which they can only get by attending school. It is important to be able to mix with others from diverse backgrounds

Schools don't give you the opportunity to mix with others from diverse backgrounds because children are tracked as either college or trade school. Those children who come from a poor family don't get to be on the college track which really isn't fair. Plus children also learn to discriminate by the time that they're in the 3rd grade thanks to our lovely school system. I've thought several times over the passed seven years about homeschooling, but it's never come to fruition. I have all the supplies necessary, so we've decided to homeschool through the summers so the kids are "up on things" when the return to school in the fall. It seems all of their peers are struggling all the time, so we don't want our kids experiencing that. If we could afford to dedicate the time to this (i.e. survive on one income), then I think we would've done this years ago.

I was not homeschooled and have never tired it. I am thinking of homeschooling my 10 year old. He is in ESE and having alot of problems at school. I was concerned about how it would work when he reached college age, but from what I see you wrote he will be fine. I am still debating because next school year I hope to become a teacher and begin working, so I'll see how it goes.

I was homeschooled, except a brief stay in the public school system from 6th to 9th grade. I also went to college, although I didn't complete it. I am now home with 3 children of my own, and am homeschooling them as well. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I was not homeschooled, although I begged for it. My step brother now is being homeschool, grrr. Oh well, lol. I homeschool my girls. My oldest went to 1 semester of preschool which she loved and 3 weeks of KG which she hated. She is 6 1/2 now and I don't think I could ever put her back in school. My youngest will probably go to the same preschool (it is just a scheduled play there really), but we will skip the KG for her!
