Should Sehwag be dropped?

United States
January 7, 2007 5:08pm CST
Sbnapping Sehwag of his captiancy does not seem to serve the purpose. The high-flying batseman is still suffering from lack of form. Its been more than 18 months since he last showed his class. Being a senior in the team, it is expected that he played with more maturity. Sometimes you feel that he never had that class and technique that he promised. So what do you guys feel about the possibility of dropping Sehwag?

Its good that Shewag was dropped for WI Series. This would be a lessor for him. Take Ganguly as an example, Ganguly was consistenly not in form and he was dropped for several matches. After this incidence, he was given a chance and he started proving himself. Likewise, this move will make Shewag practise more and he will surely be back in form for the world cup.

I am not sure whether we are able to see the same trend even for Sehwag. Ganguly had his own long innings out of form before he bounced back. The question remains whether we actually have this much of time for Sehwag to regain his form?

The fact is that he is not more serious about the job given to him. Every match, he comes and hits two or three fours and then go back to pavilion. He is more keen on the strike rate and he is not bothered in staying in the pitch for long time. Now he will realize his mistake and will be more cautious when he is given one more chance.

i dont think so. if sehwag will dropout of the team then the the team team will be i sereous trouble. he is a quick scroing guy. i think we should give some time to him. we have much time for worldcup and sehwang must return to his form before it.

Whoa... optimism. I love it. Thanks abhijitdeo2004. I too believe the same but seeing him getting out rediculously in a match makes me feel that this guy should not be killing somebody else's spot in the team.

yes he should be dropped and taught a lesson like ganguly was. I am sure he will improve after that.

I think he really needs this break they are giving him. It will give him a chance to sit back and re-look at whats wrong that he is not getting over with.

definitely he will be dropped because of his poor performance. he have to go back in to the nets and work harder there to get back his form.

Or may be just the local circuit will help him.

well dropping some one from the team is not a solution. though sehwag is really out of form and his foot is not moving 2 well 2. all he needs is to get a big innings and he will be right back with the same flamboyancy. but its been long to see him perform. in my opinion he should take a bit of rest from the international arena. its not dropping him. get his basics right on the net , play some domestic games back home, get his concentration and confidence back and again jump into the bigger arena. it was fruitful for sourav, i guess it can be the same for him 2. the most he needs is to spend a bit of time on the crease and shed a little of his weight and that might be the dawn for the old vigorous and attacking sehwag we know.

Very well said. Indeed he needs to re-look all these things and then come back with a bang. India really needs him for World Cup.

Yes, one does feel sad seeing sehwag's lack of form and i feel he should be included in the team if dravid is changed a scaptain and replaced by ganguly and if dravid continues, sehwag should be dropped for some time. For team india, it is better to replace dravid with ganguly first....

I would not agree fully with you. For the simple reason that Ganguly has only played a couple of innings after coming back... not sure how long will it last. He certainly is not fit to be a captain again.

hey sorry to just distract you but you know what i would like to say that now india is at the peak of its what we say bad form and it is not only that any of the one person is responsible for it. whether the qestion is: Q.should sourav be made the captain of the team? Q.is sourav giving the team what people were expecting after his come back? Q.sehwag is not playing good? Q.tendulkar out of form? Q.dravid took this or that decision wrong? Q.the coach is not good? Q.the coach is more a politician? Q.wrong decision of the board of taking this bowler in the team whereas the other one was required? Q.coach taking gangully case personal? ...... and many mre do not you people think that all what is happening is not good and what these people are doing is just decreasing their world cup chances? do not you think that it is not the problem with one person whole team is responsible? wrong strategies, bad form... what is this is this what indian team has to show to the world that we are the one?

Puranijeans.... thanks for the response and the good list of wuestions that you have posed. There are multiple aspects to it. India has always had a generic problem. When they get going all will get going in one go and when out-of-form all have the same situation. The biggest problem with the Indian team is their unpredictibility. The endorsement campaigns where they participate make things worse for viewers in a country where cricketers are worshipped. However, here in thie discussion, I am trying to discuss what I feel is a must required from my mind but my heart still says no..... you know what I mean :-)

y i think he should be dropped from indian team for sometime and get back in domestic cricket for gaining his previous form so that he will ready for big world cup 2007 and blazing all his strokes again so that opposite team feel scary against india.

viru on his day could slam and knock out any opponent so i think he shudnt be dropped but given more chances to be back in form.he shud be allowed to play his natural game

And what do you exactly mean by giving rest? Is it the sugar-coated term for dropping? All and all if he is not in the playing 11, it is as good as being dropped.

no doubt he should be dropped 4m playing the next series and any youngsters can be given chances..according 2 me the problem he has is playing the ball so late...

Not when the world cup is round the corner and we are not sure what kind of pressure the new comer will have to undergo before he actually starts performing.

Atanud.... Thats certainly is what is desired but do we have the time before the World Cup? Certainly the team is right now in a predicament. Dont know how things shape up for India.

Sehawag has lost his form completely. He must be given a long leave so that he can do some thing in Ranji or County; And mind you well that dont take him guranted if he hit a couple of centuries in domestic cricket. He should be in team only if he shows consistency in performance. I see no place for him in World Cup!

That shows your lack of cricket acumen. No further comments.

see sehwagh was never rechnical sound and for some he was never a cricketer but a baseball player. this all bcoz the way he plays so definately when doesnot score runs he would look like as if he had never played cricket in his life. so criticism for him, when out of form is sure dont read in to it too much i bet he is gonna be back in world cup 2007 team because team india need him. bye and take care

Aha... now thats some conclusion. Sehwag is a baseball player! However, like you are I am also very optimistic that he will bounce back and that too with a bang. Lets hope for the best.

i think sehwag will not drop because he will do better in other matchs

Sehwag simply does nt value his wicket enough a the crease...he deserves to be removed from the team!!

Well that is how he is designed to play. He is always expected to go bang-bang. When we are expecting him to slow down, we are actually expecting him not to be the natural he is.
