Do you own a DVD burner?

With the prices of the burners at an all time low and available for around $20 after rebates why wouldn't you get one since you can back up files, like movies and music, onto discs that can hold up to 4.7 GB on the single layer. Plus if you get them on sale you can buy DVD +/- R's for cheap. I was shopping today and bought good quality 50 DVD-R's for only $14. This is just a little more than you would pay for a CD-R. If you want to know of a good place to find a burner with a good rebate leave a response in this discussion.

I have had a DVD burner for quite a while now, and I would be loathe to part with it. I actually have a CD burner installed as well, so if I am writing a CD I will use that instead. I did consider a dual layer at one time, but the cost of the media makes it a poor purchase.

Why not just use the DVD burner to write to the CD? I use my DVD burner to write to CDs all the time. All DVD burners can do both I thought.

Yes it can burn DVDs or CDs, but the CD burner is much faster. I burn at less than half speed and still save time, plus it reduces wear on the DVD writer.

we bought one like a year ago, we figured we had to to back up files because our comp got infected (once again) with a virus. i think that time it was a tojan...and freaking hard virus to get out. so we got that to get all of our download and work off the computer since DVD-R holds a lot more the a CD-R. Ours was a Sony burner, we got a pretty good rebate, i think around $40-50...it was a while back, but i know we sent in 2 rebate forms. so it was a pretty good deal. if anyone wants to know we bought it from Fry's...good store for electronics and good prices.

I've got a great one. I use it to back up all my anime, I don't know what I'd do without it. And they are pretty cheap - I forgot how much I got mine for, but it was under twenty bucks. At that price, you can't beat it. Plus, blank DVDs are pretty cheap, if you know where to look for them.

Yes I have one Gigabyte Dual Layer DVD Burner on my PC but never get to make real Dvds only Data DVDs or clips. It takes time to burn DVD's or even a DVD 9.

I plan on buying one soon. I have a few I like that I found on Newegg for very reasonable prices. I guess it is always a good idea to do some backup of files and whatnot.

Yes I have a DVD Burner and have had it for 3 or 4 years now along with and external burner and have yet to use either one. I have not checked the price of the CD's in awhile simply because I don't use them. I have and external hard drive I have been using for back up.

That is awesome! I've been wanting a DVD burner since I first heard about them, but my family hasn't splurged on such an item yet. I love the idea that you can fit over 4.5 _gigs_ on a single disc! Compared to the 700 megs that you can fit on a CD-R, that's totally amazing! ^_^
