Be very careful when buying items online or just in general. I am dealing with a horrible situation now. Where I was charged for an item using my checking acct #. They got my #'s from something I bought, and then made a voice altered recording of me to say I authorized an electronic check with another company. All they need is your voice saying yes. (such as is this miss jones? yes, it is.) they have their yes. All they need is your acct # and routing # (all available on a check) to take the money. THEY DONT NEED YOUR SIGNATURE. It is hard to prove and even harder to fight. I have been dealing with one since Dec19. Still nothing. 3 different forms through the bank later, and still nothing. Not to mention the fees I got hit with. I cant get them back until I get the other amount refunded.

Thank you very much for this timely information. I am publishing my books in the internet at lulu.com and sooner or later, I mean when I have money, I'd be buying copies of them. May God bless you.

First you should deal only with big name companies which cannot afford to attract bad publicity... so they won't do the wrong thing by you. If you are going to deal with a small business... try to find a few things about it before dealing with it. On eBay...they have a rating system for every member. If the seller has 99% positive feed back for selling... you should be safe. Just check its profile to make sure he did receive most of its feedback for selling... and not for buying. Use PayPal for buying when ever you can. It is the safest way as nobody gets your credit card details or bank account details. When paying for something online...always make sure that you are on a safe security website starting with https. The "s" stand for secure. When paying for a membership or a monthly fee like for hosting your website... do not subscribe with anyone who wants to debit your credit card automatically every month. This has become the big trick in the past 5 years. Just about everyone tries to do it... and I won't subscribe to it. You will find that it is 10 times more difficult to unsubscribe that it is to subscribe. Some people keep paying because they cannot figure out how to unsubscribe. The Internet is safe as long as you do your homework and don't jump into it without thinking. I have been buying and selling online for 10 years and never had a problem.
