A day in Politics, Can money buy Absolute power?

it seems like money can buy you almost everything in this life. One thing for sure is that money can buy position for you but never to buy respect and loyalty from your people. Quality of a leader is that you have courage,wise and wit. With only these type of quality, you can have someone willing to die for you.

Your friend is right. Nowadays, politics is very awful. Why? Because anyone can run the government even though you know absolutey nothing about politics, economics and even the country. In my country actors and actresses are now reigning the government and educated people know that they are not capabe enough to run the government. But the country is composed mainly of the masses whom those incapable politicians turn into when election comes because they know they can manipulate their minds. They are using their money to catch the masses' attentions.

Money can buy anything nowadays..even power but absolute??? i don't think so. Having money doesn't guarantee anything...you might wind the election but you won't get the people's support so where's power in that.

I think that in sort your friend has right,but I,for example,don't like politic or politics,for me these are awfaul.I don't believe that with money you can buy all:life or your childhood or mybe,love that are a few example of stuff that you can't buy with money.We must be happy with our life and don't want others lifes! Yes,I am from India... I am also a student activist.. The same thing happening in my country also.... Full of old eagles trying to survive in the power system,in government.. Any of the youth hav no chance and if it happend,taht will based on money power. This is what happening all over the world, i think... This is what happening in US.We can see the great resposibility of a stupid child to complete his father's projects.By that, he is killing lakhs of people all over the world by political and weapon power...Wat to do? I think, we hav to unite and make a strrong struggle against this world phenomenon...

Must have been money and the wealth could buy the authority if when this city his inhabitants could in bought by money like what happened in my country, really the sad matter when this matter happened to our city,The authority apparently since ancient lost to money and the wealth in caused his humankind no longer had the honour, that a politic.

Politics started with noble cause and today it has been degraded. It is we humans that is the cause of such. Everywhere, politics has become a money game. You have money, you can buy power. It is not surprising that in most elections whether developed or developing nations, 95 percent of the elected is because they have money to buy votes. Truly, 5 percent of politicians are voted because of their integrity and commitment. It is good if any member can share with us an example of a clean election.

This is right, results can be changes, interests can be purchased, but my friend in real democratic enviornment these things are very rare, but the real democratic enviornment itself is very rare too

thats very true money can buy anything in this world. people can do anything for money as it is the only thing that everybody wants to own as much as possible. with money comes the power to command over people and that makes people to use unscruplous ways to achieve things which are not always legitimate.

Contesting elections require a lot of money everywhere. I am not sure which country are you from, but generally we can say that money's more influencial in third world countries than the more developed ones where people are more aware of their rights. (Last US elections George Soros reportedly spent $1.5 bln to help John Kerry win the Presidential elections)

Absolute power is not bought. If it could be, Forbes would be our President right now. Absolute power is granted by those with power. Our power in the US is granted by big companies, special interest groups, and those already in power. The elections mean nothing.

Yeah now a days in this jealous world you can buy anything or can reach in any position if you have MONEY..Money is all it is the god.Now people worship money and have placed them in the place where the god has been residing over so many decades..So I think your friend has rightly said that he will naturally win the election because he has money.

Money runs the world. If you had the right amount of money you could buy anything. Yet money without wits won't get you very far. People can be fooled by the glittering of money but there are limits. That's why money is not enough to be a successful politician, for that you need support, you need to make people believe in you. With money you could just buy yourself a cosy place or if you have ambitions, make your road to the top smoother, but greatness in politics comes from inside, your charisma and power of persuasion.

Yes I think in most countries where they have elections, most of the politicans seem to be the same old ones. well maybe your friend has a point but nobody should be able to buy themselves into any powerful position especially in government to run that country.

yes ur friend is right and money plays a important role in life and it can kill or make the people live if their is no money then nobody can lead a happy life. and all these politians are eating away the money and making the people here to starve and die. Your friend is correct-- money is the most important thing needed for a political campign. I will try to explain the reason in this response.. I am an average citizen of India workin in a multinational company. For any dialy day purpose, the government does not interfere with me.. but for taxes and some issues like reservations.. i seldom care anything about the government. On the day of the election, I did not even know what are the parties competing.. i did not know that i was voting for a "good" person.. So i voted to just some1 .. i thought was good at that moment... I think this is the case with most of the people. So, to attract the people and show that you are better than the other competitors ;mostly by sayin bad thing about the other competitors because there will be very few good things that you have done; there is no other way but to have a lot of money.. Election is a costly busines.. but money is not the only requirement..
