I have just started coming down with my first cold of the season. Does anyone have a favorite medicine, food, or practice that they use when they are sick with a cold? Any advice would be appreciated!

hi sarah. there are many so-called remedies out there in the world but the 2 things i recommend always work for me. these are no 1 - a bottle called 'synex' . don't know if you call it that in the u.s.a it is a botlle that you puy up each nostril and it releases a fluid into your sinuses. it really works. no 2 - do you eat much indian food in america? a good hot curry always does the trick as it sweats the cold out of you ! good luck!

Thank you Neil....I have used Sinex before, but it seems to only work for about a day, then it completely stops working for me.... I actually love to cook all different cuisines, and I do know how to cook curry dishes...For some reason, I never thought about eating curry for a cold, but it makes sense. The only problem that I would have with that idea is the fact that I really don't feel like eating when I am sick! When I have a cold, most of the time I cook chicken soup, and I try to force myself to eat some citrus fruit (for vitamin c)....Anyways, thanks for your response.

i hate colds speically when i'm stuffed and have a headache, so i take medicine right away, any decongestant works for me, my husband doesnt like to take med. so he just eats a whole pineapple a day and drink lots of orange juice

Sometimes I suffer with a block nose, nasal problems that come with a cold, I use menthol crystals which can be bought from the pharmacy, put a couple in a bowl of hot water, put your head over the bowl and have a towel over your head, breathe in the vapours works a treat. I also have a hot toddy, rum coffee or a hot brandy and lemon to help.

Lots of rest of course (but if you have young children, that's almost as possible) and alot of fluids. Don't underestimate the power of sleep, if you have to , find a sitter, just so you can take a couple hour nap. Your body cannot fight off sickness if you are overtired and overextending it. sorry about your cold. Also, I've heard alot of good things about Mucinex.
