What makes us human?

Why a human is human? What gives us this awareness that we are different from the rest of this world. A monkey is a monkey, and what makes us different from them? What is this that makes us human? What makes us who we are?

I think that our superior intelligence makes us different from animals and monkeys :). We have emotions, an advanced language, we are the dominant race on earth. Intelligence made us dominant. Evolution showed us that is not force to give the power but the brain!
